Resilient, Low-Carbon Homes: Regional Sourcing and Whole Life Carbon Strategies

5/13/2026|CONTINUING EDUCATION|STRUCTURED

1.5 ConEd Learning Hours
2:00p.m.-5:30p.m.

This session presents findings from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Housing Design Catalogue, including the Climate Resilience Guide, Materials Guide, and whole-building LCA across 50+ housing prototypes. The presenters demonstrate how region-specific sourcing, durable low-carbon materials, and adaptation strategies reduce emissions and risks while ensuring cost-effectiveness. Participants gain replicable insights for resilient, climate-ready housing delivery across Canada.

Learning Objectives
1. Identify material options with lower whole life carbon impacts using Canadian benchmark data.
2. Evaluate climate resilience strategies tailored to regional risks such heatwaves, flooding, and wildfires.
3. Apply whole-building LCA results from CMHC prototypes to inform housing design and policy.
4. Compare cost and durability trade-offs in material selection for resilient and low-carbon homes.
