Recognition and Plenary: Waterloo Regional Health Network Collaboration, Reconciliation and Indigenous Values

5/14/2026|PLENARY|STRUCTURED

2.00 ConEd Learning Hours
4:00p.m.-6:00p.m.

In this special Thursday plenary, learn more about a truly landmark local project as well as celebrate others in the profession for their accomplishments.

First, join your peers from across the profession as the Association celebrates past Councillors, its newest Honorary Member(s), as well as this year’s winners of the 2026 OAA Service Awards, including the recipients of Best Emerging Practice, the Medal of Service, and the new inclusions to the Honour Roll.

Then, this celebration becomes an in-depth review of an important local project. Learn more about the process undertaken by Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) to collaborate with Indigenous communities and service providers in determining the goals and aspirations for a new hospital. This includes examining how ongoing feedback has shaped and been incorporated into the design work and the development of culturally specific programming to be delivered within the facility. In addition, it identifies the next steps required to ensure Indigenous values continue to be key considerations throughout future phases of the project.

Learning Objectives
1. Learn about the convergence of mental, physical, spiritual, and cultural health.
2. Understand why meaningful dialogue with Indigenous communities makes the project successful.
3. Learn how Indigenous values can assist with achieving operational and maintenance cost targets.
4. Understand the doctrine of Planning for the 7th Generation and climate change readiness.
