Resilient Transit, Resilient Communities

Resilient Transit, Resilient Communities

IMPORTANT: Please read before registering.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Transportation infrastructure has a major impact on our daily lives; how we work and play, how our communities thrive or fail, how we tackle the climate crisis at the scale of a community, city, province, and country. Within the lengthy process of a transit project that includes policy, planning, design, construction, and operations – not to mention the challenge of rapid population growth and political will – how do architects and engineers fit into the equation of creating sustainable, well-executed transit projects that tackle the major issues affecting climate change: density, connectivity, community, and individual behaviour. This session will discuss sustainable design within the context of large-scale transit projects that connect and/or create communities. It will explore how transit architects and engineers support Transit Oriented Developments and Communities and provide measurable benefits in fighting for climate action.
