May 14, 2025 | EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING|STRUCTURED

7.5 ConEd Learning Hours
8:30 am - 5:00 pm

To attend this session, registrants must meet in the Conference Lounge: Provinces & Confederation I Kreitmaker Experiential Learning Dispatch Hub + Foyer of the Westin Ottawa Hotel

Embark on a full-day guided learning experience exploring key sites of historical and contemporary significance to Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Beginning at the Westin Ottawa, participants will walk along Wellington Street, stopping at Parliament Hill, the Indigenous Peoples Building, and the Supreme Court of Canada, where we discuss the role these institutions have played in shaping Indigenous rights, policies, and advocacy. You will then make your way to Victoria Island, a place of cultural and historical importance, before arriving at the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC).

After exploring the NWAC building, participate in a hands-on Medicine Bag Workshop led by Makatew Workshops. This activity will foster awareness and deeper understanding of Indigenous perspectives in an interactive and meaningful way. After the workshop, enjoy lunch onsite before transferring to the Canadian Museum of History. Your learning journey will continue with a guided walk of the First Peoples Hall for an in-depth exploration of Indigenous histories, cultures, and contributions through exhibits, artifacts, and storytelling. The day will conclude with a Sharing Circle and Smudging Ceremony, offering participants an opportunity for reflection and discussion before returning to The Westin Ottawa.

This experience is designed to provide an immersive, respectful, and impactful exploration of Indigenous histories, perspectives, and contemporary realities in Canada.

This session is Level 3 (Moderately Active) and includes a 90-minute guided walk from the hotel to the NWAC building in Gatineau. Dress for weather conditions and wear comfortable footwear and clothing (including a hat for sun protection). Consider bringing a refillable water bottle, high-SPF sunscreen and sunglasses, and your camera.

Please note: Participants will gather and depart from the Kreitmaker Experiential Learning Dispatch Hub located in the Conference Lounge.
