Build Now: Waterloo Region-2025 University East
5/13/2026|CONTINUING EDUCATION|STRUCTURED
1.5 ConEd Learning Hours
10:45a.m.-12:15p.m.
ABA is proud to lead the master plan for a 25-acre site in Waterloo, bringing 1,000+ homes through a partnership of governments, nonprofits, developers, and academia. The land was transferred to BUILD NOW, led by Habitat for Humanity, prioritizing family-friendly, affordable housing. The project team envisions a complete community with vibrant public spaces and a natural setting, including a wetland and woodlot.
Learning Objectives
1. Understand the collaborative framework behind BUILD NOW, including how Architects, developers, non-profits, and government partners co-create affordable housing solutions.
2. Explore the master plan design vision and conceptual typologies developed by ABA Architects, and how they respond to community needs and site-specific challenges.
3. Examine how architecture can contribute to community building and align with social impact goals, contributing to inclusive, sustainable, and community-oriented housing.
4. Understand how legal tools and strategic partnerships can be leveraged to ensure long-term affordability and equitable access in both ownership and rental housing models.
