Exploring adaptive reuse and placemaking in the Gaslight District, discover how Martin Simmons Sweers Architects, in collaboration with HIP Developments, the City of Cambridge, and design partners, transformed a once-industrial site into a vibrant live, work, play district. This tour highlights heritage preservation, adaptive reuse, a dynamic public square, and interactive art installations as hallmarks of collaborative urban revitalization.
Learning Objectives
1. Understand opportunities and challenges with adaptive reuse.
2. Learn how to make a successful and functional public square.
3. Navigate how to work with existing heritage structures to achieve accessibility.
4. Gain strategies for collaboration and incorporation of third-party interactive art installations into a project.
