4.00 ConEd Learning Hours
8:30a.m.-12:30p.m.
Hosted by Peikko Canada
Visit the Knossos Affordable Housing Development and learn how reduced floor-to-floor heights supported zoning compliance while maintaining livable space. Gain insights into integrated fire-rating within the composite beams, accessibility, and mid-rise coordination.
Learning Objectives
1. Learn how slim-floor composite beam systems can reduce floor-to-floor heights to meet strict municipal height limitations while preserving usable headroom.
2. Discover how integrated fire-rated structural systems can eliminate the need for applied fireproofing and influence ceiling design.
3. Explore how slim structural profiles enable open interior layouts, enhance spatial flexibility, and maintain architectural intent in mid-rise residential projects.
4. Examine how reduced structural depth and efficient composite systems contribute to density, material optimization, and sustainable building performance.
This session will be offsite. Please note it involves walking and moderate activity. Dress for weather conditions and wear comfortable footwear and clothing (including a hat for sun protection). Consider bringing a refillable water bottle, high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and your camera.
Registrants will meet at the Kreitmaker Experiential Learning Departure Hub to take a shuttle bus to the destination. Arrival back is expected for 12:30 pm. Registrants are still able to register for Sponsored Learning sessions, which include lunch.
