Solar Carports in the Wild
5/13/2026|EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING|STRUCTURED
3.50 ConEd Learning Hours
2:00p.m.-5:30p.m.
Also available Thursday afternoon, EL14
This session takes Architects into the field to study two solar canopy installations within a short walk of each other.
Starting at evolv1, Canada’s first Zero Carbon Building, the tour shows how design intent, construction methods, and code requirements converge in built projects. Ontario-specific conditions, material choices, and integration strategies illustrate how solar canopies turn everyday spaces into resilient, energy-producing features.
Learning Objectives
1. Recognize how solar canopies strengthen both form and function.
2. Evaluate design features that improve usability and constructability.
3. Identify structural, code, and material issues in canopy design.
4. Draw lessons from Ontario case studies for future solar projects.
