4.00 ConEd Learning Hours
8:30a.m.-12:00p.m.

Hosted by Brampton Brick Ltd.

This guided facility experience offers a behind the scenes look at the manufacturing of standard, lightweight, and select architectural concrete block using Carboclave technology. Participants will see how carbon dioxide is permanently sequestered into concrete masonry units (CMUs) during production, reducing embodied carbon while maintaining structural performance. The experience includes transportation to and from the facility, a safety briefing, and a comprehensive walkthrough of the production process. This session offers a practical perspective to the technical case study.

Learning Objectives
1. Describe the manufacturing process for standard, lightweight, and architectural concrete block, including key quality control measures.
2. Explain how Carboclave Technology sequesters CO2 within concrete masonry units and assess its impact on embodied carbon reduction.
3. Evaluate the role of low carbon concrete block in sustainable building strategies and green building rating systems.
4. Demonstrate a basic understanding of block wall assembly, including mortar application and alignment principles, through a guided hands on exercise.

This session will be offsite and involve walking and moderate activity. Dress for weather conditions and wear comfortable footwear and clothing (including a hat for sun protection). Consider bringing a refillable water bottle, high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and your camera.

Registrants will meet at the Kreitmaker Experiential Learning Departure Hub to take a shuttle bus to the destination. Arrival back is expected for 12:30 pm. Registrants are still able to register for Sponsored Learning sessions, which include lunch.
