Regenerative Placemaking: Rouge Visitor Centre-A Case Study
5/15/2026|CONTINUING EDUCATION|STRUCTURED
1.50 ConEd Learning Hours
8:30a.m.-10:00a.m.
The presentation explores the collaborative process behind the design of Rouge National Urban Park Visitor, Learning, and Community Centre—a flagship multipurpose hub and iconic gateway to Parks Canada. This mass timber project embraced a holistic, climate-responsive, and community-focused design process, leveraging sustainability tools such as life cycle assessment and systems optimization to evaluate trade-offs and deliver a regenerative project that advances toward a net-zero future.
Learning Objectives
1. Evaluate trade-offs and synergies in an integrated design process.
2. Navigate multi-jurisdictional context and sustainability frameworks.
3. Understand various carbon emission metrics (e.g. energy and embodied).
4. Evaluate and address conflicts between LCA outcomes and energy modelling.
